TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

DAY 1 WE’RE OFF!
We board our motorcoach for our short trip to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, where we will board our flight to Seattle or Vancouver. Upon arrival, we transfer to Vancouver’s Canada Place Pier where we board the beautiful ms Volendam. We depart at about 5:30PM for our three day northbound cruise. Make sure you’re on deck as we sail under Lions Gate bridge in Vancouver to begin our sea excursion!

DAY 2 THE INSIDE PASSAGE
Today we’ll be cruising the fabled inside passage. You’ll want to take advantage of the myriad of shipboard activities today and take time to stroll on deck to view the sights and sounds of this beautiful waterway.

DAY 3 JUNEAU
After breakfast, make sure to be on deck as we will be approaching Alaska’s capital city, Juneau. Whales, eagles and other wildlife are common in this area. We arrive in Juneau shortly after lunch. Juneau is the most cosmopolitan city along the inside passage. It is also packed with history, a delightful shopping district and beautiful scenery. You can go on an optional glacier expedition via helicopter, walk on Mendenhall Glacier or take a floatplane trip. We depart Juneau later this evening.

DAY 4 SKAGWAY
After cruising up Lynn Canal, we arrive early this morning in the Gold Rush Town of Skagway. We bid a fond farewell to the ms Volendam and disembark for a city tour and “Days of ‘98” revue. This afternoon we’ll check in to our hotel and the evening is free to explore this charming town and its historical sights.

DAY 5 WHITEHORSE
This morning, we board the narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Railroad, built in 1899. We’ll follow the footsteps of the miners in the 1898 Goldrush and climb to the 3,200 foot summit of White Pass, where we transfer to our motorcoach for the remaining journey to Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon Territory. Later this evening enjoy the rollicking fun of the “Frantic Follies” variety show!

DAY 6 DAWSON CITY
Travel along the Klondike Highway to Dawson City, a living museum of the gold rush, passing Lake Laberge and the Yukon River and enjoying a lunch in Minto. This evening, we enjoy Dawson City like the miners did, “gambling” and watching a Can-Can show at Diamond Tooth Gerties. We overnight in this historic gold rush city, in the heart of the Klondike.

DAY 7 DAWSON CITY
At the height of the Klondike Gold Rush, more than 30,000 people had settled in the Dawson area. Today, spend time at leisure exploring this historic city. Your tour director will have some recommendations for your time here in Dawson City.

DAY 8 YUKON QUEEN II
Today, you’ll enjoy one of the highlights of your trip to the Yukon. We board the mv Yukon Queen II and sail past a sternwheeler graveyard, miners’ cabins and enjoy a hot meal on our way to Eagle, Alaska. Here you’ll continue on your way as we travel over the “Top of the World” highway on our journey to Tok, our home for the evening.

DAY 9 FAIRBANKS
Motorcoach sightsee along the famed Alaska Highway. Your stay in Fairbanks includes a complete city tour with a stop at the TransAlaska Pipeline. Then, it’s on to Gold Dredge No. 8 for a hearty miner’s lunch and a chance to try your luck at gold panning! Later this evening, you may wish to take an optional flight above the Arctic Circle to Fort Yukon! It’s all up to you!

DAY 10 DENALI NATIONAL PARK
This morning we travel aboard our McKinley Explorer Railcars to Denali National Park. After our check in at the deluxe McKinley Chalet Resort, we’ll enjoy an afternoon Tundra Wilderness Tour to view the wide variety of flora and fauna found in this magnificent park, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the centerpiece of this park, Mount McKinley, rising up out of the landscape.

DAY 11 DENALI NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy an extra day at the park. Relax at the lodge or pack your day with optional adventures including ranger-led hikes and independent exploration. There’s flightseeing, river rafting and much more. And the optional Alaska Cabin Nite dinner show is non-stop fun!

DAY 12 ANCHORAGE
Enjoy your morning at leisure. You may want to experience whitewater rafting down the Nenana River, or perhaps learn more about winter life in the Last Frontier. Then, we reboard the McKinley Explorer to continue on to Anchorage. Perhaps you may catch a glimpse of the elusive Mount McKinley. Later this evening, our train pulls into the Anchorage depot. We transfer to our hotel in Anchorage by motorcoach for your last night in Alaska.

DAY 13 HOMEWARD BOUND!
This morning we transfer to the Anchorage International Airport, where we say good-bye to the “Last Frontier” as we board our flight for our return trip to Minneapolis. Upon our arrival we will motorcoach back home to the Brainerd Lakes Area, full of memories of Alaska & the Yukon!
