Lake Superior Circle Tour—September 9 - 15, 2012

Welcome aboard! Our first stop will be in Duluth where we will visit the historic Glensheen Mansion. After our tour and lunch, we travel up the North Shore of Lake Superior to visit the Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center. Our home tonight will be in Grand Portage, MN.
DAY 2—THUNDER BAY
After our breakfast we will venture on to Thunder Bay, Ontario. There, we meet our step-on guide for our city tour. Afterwards, we will visit historic Fort William and make a photo stop at Kakabeka Falls. We overnight in Thunder Bay.
DAY 3—SUPERIOR’S NORTH SHORE
After breakfast, we will again be joined by a step-on guide that will travel with us to Marathon & interpret Lake Superior for us—the greatest of the Great Lakes. Learn about her shipwrecks, ports and sailors. Live the lore as you learn about moose, bear and the prospectors and prophets on Northwestern Ontario. We spend the evening in Marathon.
DAY 4—SAULT STE MARIE
Today after breakfast we will make a photo stop at White River, the home of Winnie the Pooh. We make a lunch stop near the town of Wawa. Upon arrival in Sault Ste Marie, we visit the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre. You may actually climb aboard the aircraft, take the pilot’s seat in a passenger plane’s cockpit, and climb into the cargo holds of a real waterbomber! We stay the next two nights in Sault Ste Marie, ONT.
DAY 5—AGAWA CANYON
Today’s full-day excursion takes you into the Canadian wilderness for a scenic rail excursion through Agawa Canyon aboard the Algoma Central Railroad. Be awed by massive rock formations, colorful forests, and peaceful streams and lakes as you wind through the Canyon. Explore the Agawa River and its waterfalls before returning to Sault Ste Marie.
DAY 6—PICTURED ROCKS
This morning, we travel to Whitefish Point, where we tour the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum! Hundreds of artifacts have been retrieved from the Graveyard of the Great Lakes, Superior’s Shipwreck Coast. The museum has relics from the region’s first shipwrecks to the haunting ship’s bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Later, we go to Tahquamenon Falls where we take a short walk down the paved trail to the Upper Falls. After an included lunch, we travel to Munising and board a sunset cruise to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The sunset cruise will give you a special view of the rock formations. The glow from the sun is picturesque, as we witness the breathtaking sunset on Lake Superior & Munising Bay! Overnight in Munising, MI.
DAY 7—HOMEWARD BOUND
Homeward bound with many interesting thoughts, history and new friends that we have spent time with during this delightful tour. We will enjoy an included farewell lunch and arrive back in Brainerd later this afternoon.
